Legislative Commission to End Poverty |
|
|
The Minnesota Legislature has launched the Legislative Commission to End Poverty in MN by 2020. Affirmative Options is joining the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition and others in advocating for an effective commission. To be effective, the Commission will have to focus on policies of significant scale, will have to join in serious conversation with people living in poverty and will have to identify solutions that have true bipartisan, Minnesota-wide support. Poverty is too little income, too few assets and exclusion from mainstream society. We will urge the Commission to focus its attention on policy solutions that ensure people have enough money to meet at least their basic needs and the opportunity to accumulate and keep assets that underwrite security. Ending Poverty: It's about all of us. It's time. It is possible.
Affirmative Options will be encouraging members and alllies to share information that brings each of those statements to life. - To get information about the members, the staff and archives of meetings, go to the Commission website.
- The Commission is planning visits around the state in the fall and winter of 2007. The schedule of visits is posted on the right margin of this page.
- To help your community prepare for these visits, look at principles identified by Affirmative Options and Joint Religious Legislative Coalition members.
